Billie Ann’s Sugar Cookies
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salf
Mix all together in mixing bowl and chill. I usually double the recipe.
Divide the dough into 2 equal parts. Roll each portion out onto a piece of parchment to about 1/4″ thickness. Stack the pieces (with paper) onto a baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to 1 day. Chilling is mandatory.
Remove one portion of the chilled dough from the refrigerator and using a cookie cutter, cut into shapes. Transfer onto baking sheet. Re-roll the remaining dough and continue cutting until all is used.
Bake at 350 for 5-7 minutes, depending on oven. I usually take out as soon as edges turn brown. I like them a little more soft.
Here is my mom’s frosting. I love it.
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp milk
dash salt
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Melt butter. While it is still warm add other ingredients. Beat together. Add more milk if needed.
